CWGA Apprentices win National WorldSkill Medals

Central West Group Apprentices Ben Hughes and Michael Theobold from AJS Electrical in Bathurst competed at the National WorldSkills competition held in Brisbane over the weekend. Competing against the best apprentices in the country, Michael took home a Silver medal, while Ben snagged the Bronze.

“I had a shocking day 2 of competition, but hard work on the final day was enough to get me the Bronze. It’s a great result. Michael and I trained as much as possible and we wouldn’t have won medals without a very supportive boss, TAFE teachers and families.” said Ben

Both 3rd year Electrical Apprentices, Ben competed in the Electrical Installations category, while Michael competed in the Electrical Control Systems category. Both won Gold medals at the Regional WorldSkills competition to be selected to compete at the Nationals.

“Central West Group Apprentices is proud of all our National competitors. AJS Electrical apprentices have a strong history at WorldSkills and now these two are also ranked amongst the Nations best.” said CWGA CEO Ben Bardon

Over its 46 year history the "Skill Olympics" has come to symbolise the pinnacle of excellence in vocational training. Every two years, over 500 young skilled people gather together from around the Australia to compete in various trades. National winners will get the chance to compete at the International competition in London 2011.

“Both Ben and Michael are excellent apprentices and they have done themselves proud with this fantastic achievement.” said AJS Electrical Owner Anthony Stockman.
