Gavin Press from Central West Group Apprentices (CWGA) and formerly of AJS Electrical was the big winner at the Group Training Australia Awards held in Adelaide.
The Bathurst Electrician took out the night’s major award becoming the Group Training Australia Apprentice of the Year.
“I was so surprised and stoked. It takes a large support network and I have been lucky enough to get encouraged every step of the way with my family, AJS, TAFE and CWGA.” Gavin said.
Gavin completed his eletrical apprenticeship last year and represented Australia at the International WorldSkills competition in Canada.
At the gala event, Gavin said he was honoured to have been chosen as this year’s winner, while acknowledging the high achievements of the other National finalists.
“Gavin is an outstanding young man and to win this National award is a huge achievement and a fantastic recognition of the hard work and dedication he has shown over the years” said CWGA CEO Ben Bardon.
This represents back to back wins for a CWGA. The same award was won previously by graphic design Apprentice Anna Moran, also from Bathurst.
“CWGA has always been proud to promote young people who excel. For the Central West to be producing some of the best Apprentices in Australia and the World, means we must be doing something right in the region” said Ben
